My trip to India! (Part 2)

There were two fashion items i never used before India; the first is toe rings! They have plenty of beautiful options, and i sure helped myself to some.
Did you know that wearing a thick silver ring in the second toe of your feet means you’re married?! They’ll keep asking you how many kids you got right away!

My second lovely item is scarfs! In India a woman must walk around with a scarf around her neck covering her front, it’s a tradition in a way just like abaya in our country.
I was so excited to wear the Sari in particular, and i chose a bright orange one and another that mushed blue with purple, both embroidered with golden edges!

The wrapping of the Sari is a process, you even have to pay a woman to wrap it for you! My Sari wrapper’s name was Shanti which means peace. First, i had to wear the top and a skirt that has the same color as the sari fabric so it would be the underlying layer. Then, she threw a circle of the fabric around me and guided the cluster of them over my left shoulder, she used pins to secure the fabric in place, the silk felt soft and smooth
as she layered them precisely so each layer would be on top of the other.
Sari’s are the suitable clothings to visit temples in, or traditional clothings in general.
The temples there have different styles as they were created in different periods of time. Some has the Aztec feel to them, others have a bit of an Egyptian flavor. And just like Greek and Egypt, Indians have their own Mythology.
The stories about gods in India varies, they have what resembles a hierarchy of them based on what they provide you in a way, just like Greeks, every god specializes in something. There is Lakshmi that is asked for wealth, there is Hanuman, asked for health, and Ganesha who’s asked to remove obstacles, you’ll see their pictures everywhere and there are loads of temples dedicated to them. I personally liked Ganesha the most, just because he has the head of an elephant, and i love elephants!
The interesting thing is, regardless of the many gods they have in one religion, and add to that other religions, they have reached a peaceful coexistence.
You would see a temple, and after a  couple of minutes walking, you’ll see a church, keep walking and you’ll see a Masjid!
If you’re interested, do give PK a watch. It’s an indian comical movie about an alien who comes to earth to do a study and he lands in India. When he can’t go back, he decides to understand the hate and racism that occurs due to one person having a different faith than the other.

That’s the beauty of India!
It’s very rich in color, culture, and acceptance.
It was such a fun adventure, and hopefully i’ll have many more!
Share and comment if you enjoyed reading this as much as i enjoyed writing it ;)
